Almost Autumn

Hello it's Louise here with 3 LOs to share using the lush new Halloween range from My Mind's Eye. I'm not usually one for themed papers, although I do often find myself drawn to Halloween papers. I bought the collection pack, which includes some beautiful glittered papers and die cuts, and the coordinating stamp set.

Cake on a Stick Pops
After trying some spooky Halloween cake pops made by Helen, Drew became obsessed with 'cake on a stick'. For weeks after when asked what he would like for any meal, his answer would be 'cake on a stick'.
I used a dotted Swiss as my base card, inking the edges with black. Black card and strips of patterned papers were arranged to echo the spider web design on Drew's costume. I layered some of the die cuts to create a photo mat, overlapping a couple of the smaller shapes onto one of the photos.



 

The web stamp was perfect to add a touch of detail to the black card, and journalling was added with a Ranger Ink essentials pen... the best white pen I've ever found!

I used DIY Thickers for the title, covering 2 of the letters with tangerine fine glitter, and leaving the other with it's paper cover on and adding eyes to turn it into a ghost.

 

Costume Crazy

The title of my second LO was taken from one of the glittered die cuts from the collection pack.

I saw a patchwork cushion on Pinterest a while ago that I really liked. The sunburst pattern reminded me of my favourite Jenni Bowlin stamp. I wanted to recreate the patchwork design in paper on my LO, so to make this easier I drew a template onto scrap card. It was really easy to do using a compass and protractor. 

 

With the template cut up and numbered, I cut my patchwork pieces from the patterned papers. I also used a couple of papers from last years Pink Paislee Phantom range, as the colours went well with the photo I planned to use.

 Once all the pieces were stuck into place, I added machine stitched detail.

 A circle punch was used to create two embellishments. And these were machine stitched into place.

I stamped the witch design using black ink and added a layer of clear embossing powder to give it a lovely glossy finish.

The title was added using foam Thickers, and a layer of glitter was added to the date, using tombo glue as the adhesive.

 





 

A Parent's Worst Nightmare

I wanted to show that although this is a very themed collection, the colours and patterns can easily be used for none Halloween photos.

A few weeks ago Drew broke his arm and I had lots of photos of each stage of his journey from broken to better. I didn't want to do more than one LO, so created an acordian mini book to hold lots of photos and journalling.

 



The book was made really easily from 1 sheet of 12x12 card stock. I cut it into 3 pieces measuring 4"x12". Each piece was folded in half, and joined to another piece of card by 3 strips of double sided tape.

 Once the pieces of card are joined together they create pockets that can be used to add more photos, journalling or memorabilia.

The mini book was decorated with patterned papers and coordinating washi tapes. Mine reads as a journey from the accident happening, to his x-rays and his operation the next day, through to his pins being checked and re-plastered.







 

 

I saved his identity bracelet from his stay in hospital and used this on one of the pages.

 I added lots of journalling that told the story as it happened, and recorded the details that could be forgotten as time goes on.

 

I added a skeleton stamp to the LO which added a subtle touch of detail, and in this case was perfect for the theme.

 

So you can see from this how adaptable these papers can be. Try and look at themed collection packs with fresh eyes. The colours and patterns can often be used for a variety of themes.
