Big and Small

Hi all its Louise here with a few LOs to share using the Crate Paper DIY Shop collection. Many months ago Jen Naulls did this post about using 6x6 collection packs. Up until this post I had never considered buying a small collection pack, but now I often choose those over the 12x12 packs. This month I fell in love with the papers in the DIY collection so much that I bought a few of the 12x12 paper and the 6x6 pad. On each LO I used a mix of the large scale and small scale papers.
A list of the main products I used can be found at the end of this post.

The first LO uses the 12x12 ledger paper as the background with some of the more muted papers from the small collection pad. I also used a cork embellishment from Little Yellow Bicycle having fallen in love with them when I saw them at the retreat, there will be more in stock soon so keep an eye out before they fly off the shelves again.
I love stamps and as soon as I saw the Daily Details set from Elle's Studio I knew they'd become a favourite. I stamped with a subtle blue ink so that the stamped image didn't jump out from the page.

My second LO has a fresh fun feel to it as I mixed the brighter papers with some bright pink and teal decorative tapes. I patch worked some of the papers together before giving them a quick mist with some yellow.

The numbers were hand cut from the 12x12 paper and given a coat of glossy accents to make them shiny. I backed each number onto a speech bubble, using the Studio Calico template as a really easy cheats way to get the perfect shape and size.
After a little accident some of my writing became smudged and even though it was only one word, it was all I could focus on. I made a little tile from scrap paper and added it over the mistake, making it bigger than it needed to be so that it became a design feature and didn't just look like a cover up.
As part of the DIY Shop collection I chose to use these clever photo overlays. They give your photos a vintage look without the hassle of photo editing.
(Sorry about the flash glare on the photo).

The photo was of Harry and his friends after their class assembly on Victorian times. The typewriter paper and some of the details from the ephemera pack were perfect for this school themed LO.
I used a My Mind's Eye doily stamp with white embossing powder on 6x6  patterned paper, before ageing it slightly with brown ink and layering it with a paper doily.
The same stamp was used to emboss onto a large cork die cut.
I also embossed with the Amy Tan chevron stamp onto the small brown text paper, cutting away an area and backing with a small piece of contrasting paper.
In the ephemera pack there were a couple of cards focusing on the letter 'H'. These were perfect for this LO of Victorian schoolboy Harry.
I covered the 'honey bee' up and added his name, adding the number 6 to show his age.
The speech bubbles were cut from the 12x12 paper, and inked with brown. I used the Dear Lizzie roller stamp to add the sentiment.
My final LO is one taken of all three boys a few years ago. The title is from one of the boys favourite songs they sing at church, and I added some of the lyrics around the LO. I used an overlay so that the colours of the boys clothes were dulled down a bit.
I used a couple of die cuts from the ephemera pack over some crumpled and distressed paper, hand cutting the number 3 from the 12x12 paper.
A couple of the doily shapes were cut from the 6x6 paper, and tucked under the larger paper of the same pattern.
I also tucked in a little cork die cut too.

I hope I've inspired you to try mixing big with small on your LOs. If you do have a go, or use DIY Shop I'd love to see your work. Leave a link in the comment box to your blog or gallery and I'll stop by to take a look.

Remember to come back soon to see what the rest of the team have created.
