Sketches!!

Hi Sandie here!  I adore sketches, and whenever I am in a scrapbooking rut I will refer to my catalogue of saved sketches to get my mojo going again.  What I love about them is the versatility they offer, you can rotate them, flip them even reduce the whole sketch in size to create a page with lots of negative space.  This month I wanted to show you how I took a simple sketch and adapted it to suit my photos and papers.  I found this sketch on PageMaps, and liked the basic design with the small photographs.

I had taken some photographs of my daughter and her friend at McDonalds on my daughters birthday.  They were nice brightly coloured photos and suited the papers well.  I had chosen the American Crafts Garden Café paper because I knew I wanted to cut out the flowers to embellish the page rather than  use the paper as a whole and just loved the colours.  I followed the sketch by using a strip of paper across the cardstock, but only used 3 photos instead of the 4.  I then replaced the journaling strip on the sketch with a flourish of handcut flowers.  I then created a banner using Glitz Stamps and heat embossed them with American Crafts Zing Embossing Powder so that they were the same colour.

I then handcut 2 more sets of flowers and positioned them at the top and bottom of the centre paper strip.  This was in place of the punched borders on the sketch.

I positioned my photos further apart than on the sketch as I was only using 3 instead of the 4.  This gave me space to tuck under the handcut flowers.   Also using the Glitz Stamps again I stamped the word "LOVE" alongside one of the photo.  But instead of using ink, which may not have shown up so well I have used .......  paint.

Once everything was glued into place I added my title, and the page was complete.  A page which started out as a sketch, but is now my page with  my spin on it.  What I wanted everyone to see (especially if you haven't used sketches before) was that you don't have to follow a sketch exactly, let your own style and creativity shine through and use them as a base for your inspiration.
