Sew easy

This month I have been busy sewing. I love the dimension and depth stitching can give to a layout.

To begin with I used my sewing machine to randomly stitch some punched edges to create a frame for my photo of my sleeping granddaughter.
I used the EK success binder edge border punch on plain cardstock, which I inked and tore in strips before sewing in place.

For the second layout I went with hand sewing, I sketched a rough heart shape around the central focus of the photo, echoing the shape of my son's hands and then stitched it. I kept the rest of the layout quite simple to draw attention to the lovely photo.

 I poked the holes out before stitching to make it easier to sew through the double thickness of photo and paper.

For the final layout I used a photo from the last sarah's Cards retreat, which I'm sure a lot of you will recognise. For this one I used faux stitching. If you poke out the holes first before setting to with your pen, it makes your 'stitches' look more realistic.

As I also have a problem keeping my journalling straight, I found this a great way to keep my handwriting from wandering!
